Dear Parents,

I am really excited to be teaching a 5th/6th combination class this year at Inkom
Elementary School, and I am very glad to have your child in my class. I feel that keeping in
close contact with you as parents will enhance your child's learning and make for a
successful school year! Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns
about your child. Likewise, I will do the same. Together as a team we can work to solve
problems and make this a very happy and progressive year!
Grades will be figured at the mid-term of each quarter and at the end of each quarter and
a copy sent home to you. If you would like to know where your child stands at any given
time other than the above times mentioned, please contact me and I can send you a progress
report at your request.
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: I will keep parents and students posted with the activities, due
dates and homework for the week. It is vital that you read the newsletter and keep in touch
with what we are doing in the classroom. These newsletters will be sent via e-mail, so make
sure that I have your current e-mail address. (Special arrangements will be made for those
who do not have internet access.)
NIGHTLY READING: A very important part of their nightly routine at home needs to
include some independent reading time. Small reports will be due every other week
requiring certain criteria that will change each due date. The specific criteria will be in the
weekly newsletter each week. We will focus on a different genre each month.
HOMEWORK: I try not to have excessive homework, however, if your child is not using
his/her time well in class, they will have homework. Assignments will typically be due the
next day. You can probably expect Math each night!
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR PLAN: This year we will be making our classroom rules and
consequences together. I will send home a copy of our plan with the next packet. Please look
for that so you can discuss it with your child.
PACKETS: Most Mondays I will send home a packet of your child's work from the previous
week. Please take time to review the papers and follow your child's progress in class. In the
past I have included a newsletter from the classroom to keep you informed of the important
things that will be going on in our classroom and throughout the school, however this year as
an effort to save on paper, I will be sending those out on e-mail to all who have an e-mail
address. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS THE PACKET BACK TO SCHOOL
ON TUESDAY!!
LOW SCORES: If at any time your child gets a score lower than 80% on an assignment,
they are strongly encouraged to re-do it. Papers that are turned in within a week of the
original assignment will get an averaged grade between the first and the second score. (That
is for my homeroom classes, it may be different for classes with other teachers.)
SCHOOL LUNCHES: The cost for student lunches this year will be $1.65. Coming home in
today's packet will be an application for reduced or free lunches that you can fill out and
return as soon as possible. We benefit from every application that is turned in whether you
qualify or not, so I encourage all of you to fill out the application. Adult lunches will cost
$3.00 this year and parents are more than welcome to come and eat with their children, we
only ask that you call that morning by 8:30am to let the cooks know to prepare for you.
BREAKFAST: School breakfast is free to all students. They serve breakfast from 7:35am
to 8:00am in the cafeteria every morning.
EMERGENCY CARDS: Please find the emergency card in your packet today, fill it out and
return it to school as soon as possible!!!!! These are vital to reaching you in an emergency
situation. Make sure to include e-mail address if you have one!
ACTIVITY FEE: This year there is a $5.00 activity fee. This fee goes towards various
activities that we do throughout the year. You can pay this at the office or to me here in
the classroom.
WEB PAGE: My web page will be updated weekly with weekly assignments. Please check it
regularly. The address is: www.mvsd21.org/~landerson/ or follow the links from the
district website: www.mvsd21.org .
If you ever have any concerns throughout the year, please feel free to talk with me. You
may call the school for an appointment at 775-3361 or e-mail me at Landerson@mvsd21.org
. I anticipate a ggggrrrreat year with this particular group of students.
