14. Student Planners: Students will be expected to log in all of their daily assignments in their student planner. Every Monday students take home their planner and have parents sign it, thus acknowledging that you are aware of the assignments your child is responsible for during a given week. Rewards will be given for student planners being returned each Tuesday. |
General Information This page contains general information about the classroom. |
1. Accelerated Reading: Students will be given a certain amount of A.R. points for each quarter. This is based on the student's individual reading ability. Each quarter students will take the star test to determine his/her reading level. Students need to check out books on their A.R. reading level. During class time I allow about 20-25 minutes per day to read A.R. books and take tests. Students are expected to read 30 minutes five days a week at home. Students who reach their A.R. goal quarterly will be rewarded with an A.R. party. |
2. Art Mom & Dad Program: Would you like to be an Art Mom or Dad? I need at least two parent volunteers to be in charge of this program. Starting in October, art lessons are taught monthly by parent volunteers. An artist is featured every month along with the technique they used. Then students create an art project using the ideas given from the lesson. The lesson and student examples are ready for the school year. At the end of the year we will have an art fair. The art mom and dad program was very successful last year. The students enjoyed having parent volunteer teach art. One of their favorite projects they made was the Persian Rugs. |
3. Birthdays: On your child's birthday you are invited to send a special treat for the entire class. If your child's birthday is not during the regular school year, we will celebrate their half-birthday during the school year. This way they get all the excitement of being special for a day during the school year. Please have the treats here by 3:30 p.m. We will serve the treats at the end of the school day unless you request to have them served at another time. |
4. Classroom Banking: Students can earn classroom money throughout the year. The money they earn will be used to purchase items from the classroom auction. Classroom auctions will be held twice yearly. The first auction will be after the second quarter and the second auction will be at the end of the school year. Auctions will be comprised of garage sale and sale-type items. Students are encouraged to donate something for the auction. Please start saving now for our winter auction. As part of our banking, students will be taught how to use a check registry. They will make deposits, write checks, and balance their checking account. Thursday is bank day, during this time they are allowed to make deposits. |

16. Mastery Club: I would like to thank Mrs. Renz of Tom McCall Elementary School, Redmond, Oregon for allowing me to use her Mastery Club Program. What is Mastery Club? This is an optional club for students who are interested in going above and beyond the classroom expectations. It is a way to challenge students and keep their brains active? I hope to encourage my students to always strive to learn new things all the time. Learning never ends! Believe and you can achieve! How do I participate? Choose any question from the Mastery Club Challenges. Research it to find the answer (websites are provided to aide you with your research). Then write down the question number, copy the question, and write your answer in your Mastery Club Notebook! Bring it to me, and I will record each correct answer. You must get all parts of the answer correct in order to get full credit. Once you get 16 challenges correct, your name will be added to the Hall of Fame. Once you have been added to the Hall of Fame, your name will stay in the Hall of Fame until I retire! Students will receive a special certificate at the end of the year for all the stars he/she earned. What is the Mastery Challenge Notebook? Choose one notebook for your Mastery Club answers. Put the number of the question, copy the question, and write your answer below. Please keep it organized. Skip lines in between questions, use neat handwriting, etc. |
10. Monday Folders: (Red Folders) Every Monday the yellow folder will be sent home with your child. This folder will contain a newsletter, school information, and corrected assignments from the previous week. The newsletter indicates the activities for the week. Rewards will be given to students returning their folders every Tuesday. Please go over the corrected papers with your child. This is a great time for parents to help their child with any mistakes he/she made on an assignment. |
11. Room Mom: The room mom is in charge of organizing the classroom parties. Your main job is to call parents to help with the party by assigning treats and games for each party. |
12. Scholastic Book Orders: Book orders will be sent home monthly. Please make your checks payable to Scholastic Book Club. The due date will be indicated on the book order. |
13. Spelling: Spelling test will be given each Thursday. Students need to practice the spelling words at least ten minutes daily. At the beginning of the year a spelling list for the entire year will be sent home. Please keep this list in a safe place. This list will also be on my webpage. Weekly newsletters will indicate the spelling list we will be studying for that day. |
