Child Find-Special Education Information
Marsh Valley school district believes that with the right tools and opportunities, students can achieve higher levels. The foundation of this commitment is our responsibility to provide every student with the supports and accommodations specifically designed to meet their individual needs and assure equal access to educational programs for disabled students.
This document explains the availability of special education services, a student’s right to a free appropriate public education, confidentiality protections, and the referral process. Those services may be delivered through either a 504 Plan, or special education.
Does your student have a medical, health or developmental concern?
The Evaluation Process
If a student you know has a medical, health or developmental concern that substantially limits a major life activity, they may be eligible under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
If you know of a child with disabilities or developmental delays, who may have difficulty walking, talking, hearing, or learning, or may display behaviors that appear different from other children their age, they may be eligible for special education services under IDEA.
Confidentiality
All 504 plans and Special Education records are confidential and shall not be disclosed to any third party without consent.
With a referral meeting and parent/guardian consent, an evaluation process and eligibility determination is made by a school team which consists of the parent/guardian and school professionals.
If the student is eligible for a Section 504 Plan, the team will make a plan which identifies accommodation necessary to meet the needs of your student to the same extent as the needs of students without disabilities are met.
If a student is eligible for special education, the team will prepare an implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is assure a free and appropriate education, in the least restrictive environment that may include services, supplementary aids and services, and/or assistive technology devices and services.

If you have questions or are interested in scheduling a meeting to learn more, please contact your student’s principal, teacher, or the special education director.
If you do not have concerns regarding your student at his time, or if your student is already qualified under Section 504 or Special Education, you do not need to do anything further at this time.
* Due to federal laws, Marsh Valley School District has a duty to identify, refer, evaluate and, if eligible, provide a free and appropriate public education to disabled students. This notice is provided under Title II and the IDEA to support the District’s Child Find Program.
